Are you one of those folks who think a doctor or health care provider is a mind reader? Do you have questions which only get asked when you and your best friend are talking? I used to be like that, but there were so many things I wanted to know, or which seemed “a little odd” that I began making a list before I went for my check-up. And I learned along the way, from some very upfront nurses and doctors, that if anything is bothering me, no matter how insignificant it may seem, that they can’t help me.

The Agewell Educational Series of free programs continues and the next program should be of interest to many.

On Thursday, Aug. 9, Southern Maine Agency on Aging is sponsoring a program called “Can We Talk?”, Communicating with Your Healthcare Provider, with Family Caregiver Specialist Anne O’Sullivan. This workshop will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Unity Gardens, 124 Tandberg Trail, Windham, in the Community Room.

This workshop will give you the insight and tools you need to participate as an effective member of your or your loved one’s health care team. Strategies for getting the information you need, as well as communicating to professionals will be discussed.

Refreshments will follow the workshop which is free of charge. Call Anne Murray at 1-800-427-7411 for more information or RSVP.
