Ongoing events:

• Lakes Region Farmer’s Market runs 8 a.m. to noon until Oct. 13. Rain or shine at Manchester Elementary School on Route 302 in North Windham.

• Steep Falls Public Library: Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. To noon. A free story hour for toddlers and preschool children is held Wednesday at 10 a.m. Story hour is free and open to the public.

• Active Senior Citizens of Standish holds meetings the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 11 a.m. at the Steep Falls Fire Barn. Lunch is $3 and reservations are required before 9 a.m. the Monday prior to the meeting. To reserve a spot, call Alvida at 642-4929 or June at 727-6215.

• A Caregiver’s Support Group meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Bridgton Community Center from 1:30 to 3 p.m. This discussion group is sponsored by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging and the Alzheimer’s Association. No need to pre-register, but if you have any questions, you may call Loretta Baker at 647-8095.

• American Legion Standish Memorial Post 128 meets every second and fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Kiwanis Beach Road Club House on Route 25 in Standish. All veterans, past and present, are welcome.

• The Windham Fire Department sponsors a child car seat inspection every third Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Windham Fire Station. FMI 892-1912.

• Avalon Lakes Region Food Pantry in Naples has been helping the southern Maine community since 2003. Call 693-3056 for an appointment.

Aug. 3: American Red Cross blood drive at the United Methodist Church, Route 114 in East Sebago from 2-7 p.m.

Aug. 4: Indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church on Route 202 in Gray. Items available for the home, yard, garden, kids, and pets. Bake sale, too. The event is a fundraiser for the church.

Aug. 4-5: Perennial flower sale to raise money for Bonny Eagle Project Graduation, graduating class of 2008, at George E. Jack Elementary School on Route 35, Standish, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. New and unusual perennials started from seed. Seeds donated by Maine seed catalog companies. Most plants just $3.

Aug. 7: American Red Cross blood drive at Point Sebago in Casco from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Aug. 8: Join Animal Detective Brett Levin from the Standish Recreation Department as he shares his animal expertise at the Steep Falls Library. This will be a potluck BBQ down by the river so bring your towel, swim suit and something good to eat and share with everyone. Meet at the library and carpool down to the river. Families are invited to join the Read-to-Me portion of the program on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. until Aug. 15.

Aug. 11: The sixth annual Good Old Fashioned Variety Show will be held at 7 p.m. at the Windham Assembly of God, 1051 Roosevelt Trail, Route 302, North Windham. Free will donations will be accepted, to benefit the Monday Meals Program. If interested in performing, call 650-3972 or 642-2834.

Aug. 11: American Red Cross blood drive at the Standish Fire Station, 175 Northeast Road in Standish from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Aug. 13: American Red Cross blood drive at North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail in Windham from 2-7 p.m.

Aug. 14: Le Leche League Breastfeeding support group meets in Naples at 10 a.m. Call Beth Brown for directions. 693-4793.

Aug. 25: Fundraiser to benefit the Walker family of Denmark, survivors of James Walker who was killed in Conway in July. The event will feature DJs, barbecue, live music and a raffle. It is scheduled to run from noon to midnight at the American Legion Post 46 on Tasker Hill Road in Conway. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door or in advance from the Legion post, the Army Barracks in Conway or TD Banknorth.

Aug. 27: Shed Happen’s Play Boat Raffle Drawing to benefit Windham Public Library. Tickets are 1 for $5; 3 for $10. Interested? Send check made out to Friends of the Windham Public Library to: Windham Public Library; Boat Raffle; 217 Windham Center Road; Windham, ME 04062, postmarked no later than Aug. 20.
