The water tower that has been standing at Oak Hill since 1926 was torn down last week by the Portland Water District. In May, Scarborough resident Ian Engelman proposed the water tower be transformed into a lighthouse with an observation deck that could serve as Scarborough’s town center. Though councilors considered Engleman’s idea, they ultimately decided not to pursue it.
