Town of Standish Web site
Many people know how to find the information that they are looking for concerning town events and information in Standish just by going to the town of Standish Web site: www.standish.org. For folks who don’t often use the computer to locate local news this is a brief tutorial to help you find information of interest to you.
By simply going to www.standish.org, you will find a page that provides municipal government information, community bulletin board, business links and local history. Another way to get to this site is to go to Google, or whatever browser you use, and type: “Town of Standish – Maine.” This will get you to the homepage, and you will find a great deal of information about your town, including calendars for the schools, recreation and town meetings.
One thing of interest to me today was the picture of the graduating class of Standish High School from 1933. There is an amazing black and white photo of the graduating class with all of the girls in lovely white blouses with lacy collars, jabots, ruffles and attire not usually seen today with many nice hand knitted sweaters worn over the lacy blouses and dresses. The men also had an interesting array of knitted sweaters, suits, jackets and shirts with ties. If you have not seen this picture, you might want to look at it to see if you can identify some of the students from the class of 1933. If you cannot identify anyone, it is still worth it to look at the picture to see the styles of that time and to get a glimps of Standish history.
The recreation calendar has a large section devoted to all of the activities for students in Standish. There are many summer recreation opportunities going on daily and there are so many that it will be helpful to check this out on a regular basis so that you can see what is happening in your community recreation program from week to week.
The town meetings, including council meetings and planning board meetings are listed as well as Committee Meetings. If you have not perused this site in the past, it is a good source of information for everyone to keep informed about what is happening in the community. After viewing this site, it would be helpful for you to review many of the sites that are of special interest to you, because there are many activities and events going on throughout the community.
