The Standish Family Festival:
The Standish Family Festival will start on Friday, June 29 with Drive-In Movie Night at Standish Memorial Park. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the snack shack will be open for business with burgers, hot dogs and plenty of other summer goodies. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and family and friends.
There will be a short movie for very young movie goers at 8:30 p.m. And the feature starts at 9 p.m. If your family has special dietary needs or just want to do a picnic lunch, feel free to do that. This is a great opportunity for children to mingle with their friends and family and feel a sense of community in a safe environment.
The parade will be on Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m. It will start on Blake Road and end at the Old Red Church on Oak Hill Road. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and community spirit. Be ready to cheer your town on and spend some time with family and friends.
If you have a special Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop, or you enjoy a particular activity that you would like the town to be aware of, please contact Linda Brooks at 642-2875 and let her know that you want to participate in the parade. This parade is for the enjoyment of the community so bring out your theater group, the crazy hats or anything that you believe would add to the enjoyment of the parade watchers.
The Kiwanis Beach activities will also be on Saturday, June 30 from 3 p.m. to dark. There will be free admission to the beach all day. Enjoy picnicking, swimming, volleyball, “Cow Patty Bingo,” and a Chicken Barbecue, followed by fireworks. Fireworks start at dark.
Plan to spend the day and get to know your neighbors and local community members in a different atmosphere. Again, feel free to bring your own snacks and picnic lunch or supper and hang around for the fireworks. If the weather is questionable for any of these activities, call the Recreation office at 642-2875 to hear the updated message indicating their plans.
This is your festival. If you have ideas of things that you would like to see take place, call Linda Brooks at 642-2875 and talk with her about future festivals.
