Editor,
Michael Shaughnessy is running for a second term on the Windham Town Council and I’m asking Windham voters to go to the polls on June 12 and vote to keep Michael on the council for another three years.
Michael has proven to be an especially able and active member of the council during his first term. His commitment to the free exchange of information and ideas between town government and the citizens is always a factor in his decision making. Whether it is improvements to the town’s Web site or organizing a meeting of the residents of South Windham, he is constantly seeking out ways to engage the community.
Michael also cares deeply about the social and natural heritage of Windham. Recognizing that Windham is one of the fastest growing communities in Maine, he continually advocates for preserving the sense of community and the rural landscape that make this a special place to live. At the same time, he is a realist about the urban pressures facing Windham and the urgent need to institute policies and to build infrastructure to better manage growth.
His participation on the town council has always been marked by patience and a thoughtful consideration of the views of other councilors. His views are always presented in the context of “we” rather than “me.” We need this guy for another term.
