The annual Windham town meeting will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the high school auditorium.
Residents will vote to approve or modify the town budget for the fiscal year 2007 to 2008. The total amount needed to run the town and public school system will determine the tax rate on local property taxes. State subsidy and federal grants, as well as fees, will pay for some of the municipal and school budgets.
The suggested municipal budget is $14.1 million, with $6.7 million coming from town property taxes.
The Kindergarten through Grade 12 school program has been suggested at $29.2 million, with $13 million coming from town property taxes.
The adult education program has a suggested budget of $377,169, with $197,701 coming from town property taxes.
Town Counselor Elizabeth Wisecup said she will not be able to attend the meeting, but asked Town Council Chairman John MacKinnon to take a moment out of the town meeting to recognize and give thanks to Windham residents who have enlisted in the armed services.
The town will also recognize the police officers, firefighters, EMTs and public works employees who helped with the Patriot’s Day storm and the rescue of the two high school students from a packed snow bank in North Windham in February.
