Scots ready for tourney play
The sixth-seeded Bonny Eagle softball team (10-6) was scheduled to host Marshwood in a West A preliminary round game on Wednesday, June 6. The Scots and Hawks got together earlier this year with the Scots coming out on top, 7-1.
The winner of that game was scheduled to take on third-seeded South Portland in a regioanal quarterfinal on Thursday, June 7. The Scots took on the Red Riots a few weeks ago with South Portland holding on for a 3-2 win.
Last year the Scots were the No. 3 seed in the tournament and advanced all the way to the semifinals where they lost to South Portland.
Eagles open tourney as eighth seed
The No. 8 Windham softball team (8-8) was scheduled to face No. 9 Portland (6-10) in a West A prelim on Wednesday, June 6, for the chance to play top-seeded Scarborough (16-0) one day later in a regional quarterfinal.
The last time the Eagles met the Bulldogs they came out on the short end of a 6-5 score. Andrea Parent had three doubles and two RBIs for Windham in that game. And the Eagles fell to Scarborough during the regular seaosn by a 4-0 margin.
Lakers await quarterfinal opponent
The Lake Region softball team earned a first round bye in this year’s Western Maine Class B tournament thanks to their 12-4 record in the regular season. The second-seeded Lakers were scheduled to face the winner of Wednesday’s regional prelim taht pitted No. 7 Lisbon against No. 10 Falmouth.
The Lakers’ quarterfinal match-up was set to take place Thursday, June 7, in Naples.
(The Lakers have not faced Lisbon yet this season but did they face Falmouth in their season opener when they earned a 6-3 win.)
