The Raymond-Casco Historical Society recently welcomed 12 student-volunteers from the University of Michigan. They were part of a larger group of literary students spending six weeks in Maine studying New England authors from Hawthorne to present day writers. Camp Wohelo in South Casco hosted the scholars.
During their local stay, the students spent an entire afternoon at the Casco 1849 one-room schoolhouse cataloguing the historical societies collection of school books and Casco Town reports dating back to the early 1800s. Officials from the Raymond-Casco Historical Society said they were grateful for their help in a rather tedious and time-consuming project.
The next meeting of the RCHS is scheduled for Monday, June 11 at 6 p.m. (Please note change in time.) From 6-7 p.m., guests from the Gray Historical Society will be touring Casco’s 1849 one-room schoolhouse. Following the tour, members and guest will assemble in the Casco Public Library for light refreshments and sharing of ideas.
