Interact Club members raised $450 toward a cleft palate operation for a local family with proceeds from the second annual talent show at the Windham High School.
“We’ve had it in mind since the beginning of the school year,” said Alicia Michaud, 16. She and Kristen Morrison, Carla Dies and Sara Juergens are the officers of the Interact Club, a service club sponsored by the Sebago Lake Rotary Club.
“The Interact Club is the kids Rotary Club basically” said Kim Russell, who is on the board of directors of the local Rotary club.
“They’re just really good students,” said Michael Timmons, a Windham teacher and advisor to the Interact Club.
The talent show had 10 acts and a panel of four adult judges from the community. Donated CDs were given to the top three acts.
The first act was a provocative dance by 17-year-old Grant Dodge. He was also in a second act with Justin Barr and Jonah Bruce in which the three played musical instruments, got into a brawl with each other and tore off their shirts. The act ended with a standing back flip by Barr.
Dodge said the act, entitled “Extravaganza,” was entirely improvised.
Other acts included a traditional Iranian song sung by Ashfi Haddadi, a metal rock-out by local band Alert The Rest, an acoustic song sung and played by Shawn Pennels and a well-coordinated all-girl team dance called Bethany King and the Pulse Team.
Grant Dodge placed third. Alert The Rest took second. And Bethany King and her Pulse Team won first place.
Talentshow1 Matt Wilson, Matt Libby and Jeremy Milair, of the metal band Alert The Rest rock out during the Windham High School talent show.
