Susan Kirk from Project Linus visited Stephanie Conners’ class at Goerge E. Jack Elementary School in Standish to accept a donation of two quilts that the class had made for Project Linus.
The fifth-grade students designed the quilts and one of the student’s grandmothers, Judith Heggeman, helped with the sewing.
Project Linus gives homemade blankets so children can get a “Blanket Hug” when they are sad, not feeling well, or in the hospital. The blankets are like Linus’, of peanuts comic strip fame, security blanket.
Project Linus gave more than 1,300 blanket hugs in 2006. For more information about Project Linus: Susan Kirk, Project Linus Coordinator; 10 Marathon Ave. in Gorham, Maine 04038; 839-2227; portland.me@projectlinus.org.
