The Windham baseball team is looking forward to next week’s West A tournament after finishing the regular season with a 14-2 win over Westbrook on Thursday, May 24. The Eagles are now 8-7 on the year and they are the No. 9 seed in the most recent West A Heal Point standings.
Zach Cantor and Nick DeRice both had three-run home runs for the Eagles in the win over the Blazes. Windham pounded the Westbrook pitchers for 17 hits while Arthur Winship limited the Blazes to just six hits in six innings of work.
Cantor finished with four hits, four RBI and three runs scored and Nathan Johnson added three hits and three RBI as well. Sam Leblanc had three hits and Arthur Winship and Ethan Turner both contributed a pair of hits to help the Windham offense.
Windham will play a prelim game on Tuesday, although it’s still unclear (at press time) who they might face.
Scots finish frustrating season
Bonny Eagle’s baseball team ended the regular season with a 1-14 record, well out of contention for a tournament berth. The Scots lost a number of close games this spring and are better than their record indicates, but they were unable to turn those narrow losses into victories until they surprised Scarborough for a 10-4 win in May 23.
Ryan Walker and Nate Jewell led the way offensively with two hits each to pace the Scots’ 13-hit attack. Casey McKague went the distance on the mound limiting the Scots to just six hits.
Lakers end regular season
The Lake Region baseball team dropped to 3-12 following Tuesday’s 10-0 loss to top-seeded Poland. The Lakers were held hitless through the five-inning contest and they committed five errors in the field.
The Lakers were scheduled to play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, May 30, at St. Dom’s.
