Former Red Riot throws complete game two-hitter
University of Maine senior pitcher Greg Norton (South Portland) was named the America East Pitcher of the Week back on May 15.
Norton earned the victory in Maine’s 3-1 win over Hartford on Sunday, May 13. He took a perfect game into the bottom of the fifth inning. He allowed just two hits and one unearned run in the game. Norton won his team-leading sixth game of the season against Hartford. He went the distance against the Hawks to pick up his team-leading fourth complete game of the season.
The win against Hartford moved Norton into a tie for third place on Maine’s all-time wins list with 26. He ties Scott Morse (1984-86) who finished his career with 26 victories. He is one shy of the school record for career wins set by fellow South Portland native Bill Swift (1981-84) and tied by Mike D’Andrea (1989-92). Norton also ranks fourth on Maine’s all-time innings pitched list with 287.
Maine recently competed in the America East playoffs where Norton picked up a 13-8 win in an elimination game against Stony Brook on Friday, May 25. It was his seventh win of the season.
