Jeanne Christie, of Windham, is the winner of the 2007 National Wetlands Award for Education and Outreach for her work as executive director of the Association of State Wetlands Managers.

As the executive director, Christie provides information on wetlands through a variety of formats including workshops, conferences, speeches, web pages, and white papers. She also contributes to the organization’s bi-monthly newsletter and its monthly e-zine, Wetland Breaking News. Her work has influenced wetlands policies and programs at the federal, state, and local levels.

“Jeanne brings us together, makes connections among agencies and individuals, links policy makers, lawmakers, scientists and wetland program managers. We all rely on Jeanne’s education and outreach efforts, and the nation’s wetlands are the ultimate beneficiaries,” said Peg Bostwick, chair of the Association of State Wetland Managers. Bostwick nominated Christie for the award.

The award presentation was presented on May 9 in Washington, D.C. Senator Russ Feingold gave the keynote address. The ceremony was held in the Rachel Carson Great Hall at the headquarters of the Department of Environmental Protection Agency and was followed by a reception dinner for winners, family and distinguished guests.

The National Wetlands Awards coalition consists of the Environmental Law Institute, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USDA Forest Service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Federal Highway Administration, and NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service.
