For the third year in a row, Bonny Eagle High School’s student newspaper, the Eagle Times, won the New England Scholastic Press Association’s All-New England award, the top award given at the Boston University student journalism conference.
The paper won in the large school division, for schools over 1,000 students. In addition, out of the nearly 1,000 entrants, two students won awards in the special achievement category: freshman Eliot Douin won for his sports feature on a female wrestler, and senior Melanie Prescott won in the feature category for her story about a Bonny Eagle alumni who has become a successful entrepreneur.
Special congratulations were given to Editor-in-Chief Jen Vincent, as well as to other reporters, editors and photographers whose quality work was recognized. They are: Photographer Doug Hitchcox, Reporter/Editors Maria Hall, Kari Thompson, Amber Libby, Shannon Jacobson, Chris Grant, Sarah Violette, Sarah Murray, Crystal Stack, and Andrew Cardamone.
Teacher/Advisors Joyce Turrell and Joanne Lannin along with Editor Jen Vincent also led a workshop at the conference on the topic of dealing with sensitive issues in the school paper.
