About 800 people brushed through the hallways of the Windham High School Monday evening to view artwork crafted by students from every part of the school system for the third annual Windham District Art Show.

Organizer Angelika Blanchard, the art teacher at the Windham Middle School, had been plastering the long hallways around the performing arts center since Wednesday with pieces done by kids from kindergarten up to advanced placement high school courses.

“We have to be careful they stay up, or it sets the alarms off,” she said while sliding a loop of scotch tape behind a loose pencil line drawing. She said falling art set off the motion detectors five times in one night two years ago and the police had to come over and check each one.

Tables were set up to display sculptures in the performing art center and several of the advanced placement high school students worked on projects in front of the crowds.

Blanchard and her helpers from the art department finished arranging the artwork shortly before the three-hour event started at 5 p.m. Piano music was provided by 17-year-old Eoin Sinclair and a short concert was performed by the Third Grade Chorus and the Windham Chamber Singers.

“It’s a celebration of what (students) do throughout the arts,” said Jeff Bell, an art teacher at the high school.

Windham Superintendent Sandy Prince said he was very impressed with the artwork.

“I think it shows how comprehensive our K through 12 art program is,” he said.

“I’m impressed, these kids are very talented,” said Vickie McMullen, mother of two Windham students.
