Speedy foursome does it again
The relay team of Hilary Curtis, Kaitlynn Saldanha, Erica Jesseman and Allison Chamberlain – all juniors at Scarborough High School – set another record Friday at the New England Interscholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston. Finishing fourth overall, the quartet broke the Maine state record in the 4 x 800 relay with a time of 9:32.34, which was 11 one-hundredths of a second better than the three-year-old mark set by Greely. On Feb. 11 the foursome broke the SMAA meet and conference record in the 4 x 410 relay with a time of 4:10.6, and nine days later they set the Class A record in the 4 x 800 at the state meet, running the race in 9:45.51. The four are scheduled to compete in the National Scholastic Indoor Championships on March 12 in New York City.
Success for Scarborough swimmers
A pair of former Scarborough swimmers had successful seasons at the collegiate level this year. The sophomore won conference titles in both the 200 and 400 individual medley events. Jenn Flahery, a freshman at Miami of Ohio, won 11 races and had the top times in the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle races this year in the Mid-American Conference.
Legion team hosts blood drive

The Post held its sixth annual blood drive, which attracted 45 successful donors despite frigid outdoor temperatures.
Little Leaguers work on pitching
A group of 17 Scarborough Little Leaguers spent 10 weeks this winter going through some strength and conditioning exercises with the Libby-Mitchell American Legion Post 76 baseball team this winter at the Bat Cave, an indoor facility in Portland. The boys were third- through fifth-graders, and the program was run by Legion coaches and players. The kids were shown elementary pitching mechanics and threw to catchers for accuracy and velocity. Youth leagues at Camp Ketcha
Donald “Del” Larrabee, one of the most outstanding athletes of the Scarborough High School Class of 1975, got the chance this winter to work with his pre-k niece Mackenzie Charest and his Pleasant Hill School nephew Noah Charest in the kids’ winter basketball program of the Scarborough Youth Sports Forum. Larrabee served as one of the coaches for the kids in the instructional program.
