Organizers are promising that this weekend’s Gorham Marketplace will be the best ever.
The ninth annual event will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, in the Costello Field House at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. The event is free.
Cindy Hazelton, director of Gorham Recreation Department, said there would be 30 first time exhibitors and a total of 108 booths. “It’s shattering the record,” Hazelton said.
She said the university’s robotics team would participate this year, as would the music department, which is hosting a “music petting zoo.” Hazelton said people could try out the instruments. “I think it will be very cool,” she said.
Others activities include an airbag demonstration from Moody’s Collision Center of Gorham and the Masons are again sponsoring their child identity program.
The Gorham police and fire departments will have demonstrations. The Rotary Club is sponsoring a blood drive with the Red Cross with a goal of collecting 40 pints.
There will also be four cash drawings at the Marketplace for $300 each and winners have to be present to claim the prizes. Those attending receive a free ticket and those giving blood will be awarded an extra ticket for the drawings.
The Gorham Business and Civic Exchange is sponsoring the event.
