Youth soccer sign-ups

Sign ups for Windham Youth Soccer will be held Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, March 4 from 9:00 am to noon in the Windham High School auditorium lobby. The program is open to any child born on or before Oct. 15, 2001, up to and including ninth graders. Players are assigned to teams by school grade. Games are played Sunday afternoons, starting on the last Sunday in April (depending on field conditions) and ending in June. First-time players will need a copy of their birth certificate. The registration fee is $40 and checks should be made payable to Windham Youth Soccer or WYSA. The final cut-off date for registration is April 7, 2006. Register early to secure a place. Those who cannot make it to one of the sign-up sessions can pick up a registration form starting March 8 at the Windham Recreation Department or the Windham Public Library. Former Eagles soar at St. Joe’s

During the last week in January, St. Joseph’s College senior guard Chad Pulkkinen of Windham was named the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week. In a 3-0 week, Pulkkinen shot 62% (18-29) from the field and 64% (11-17) from behind the arc while averaging 16.3 points per game. He recorded 18 points in a 99-91 overtime victory over Thomas College, including a steal and two free throws with 27 seconds to go to seal the overtime win and added 16 points in a 79-57 victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Windham’s Kaylin Regula celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday with a season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds as St. Joe’s defeated Newbury College, 55-45. It was her fifth double-double of the season. St. Joe’s (8-16) hosts the Division 3 Independents Northeast Regional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 25 and will take on St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn at 2 p.m.
