Key concerns: “It’s going to be a work in progress. I’m learning about them; they are learning about me. A lot of our season will depend on how patient we can be.”

Coach’s comment: “I’m encouraged by how hard the kids are working. I think these are very coach-able kids and we are very athletic. We should be strong defensively and we’re going to try to get after people. The key will be if we can go out and score points.”

Girls basketball

Paul True, second season.

Winter 2004-05 Record: 18-3

How did last season end: Wins over Falmouth and Greely in the post season and a loss to Yarmouth regional finals.

Key Newcomers: Kristi Leach, Emily Rowbothem

Key concerns: “Our main concern is rebounding . We have some decent size but we’re not huge.”

Coach’s Comment: “We are definitely going to be able to play the style we like. Our depth allows us to be aggressive. Our goals are simple . We’re just going to try to get better every day we’re in the gym. We’re not looking down the road, we’re just going to play hard every day.”

Wrestling

Paul St. John, third season.

Winter 2004-05: 1-29

Key wrestlers: Steve Chadwick, Josh Rutland, Peter Bretton, Ben Bailey

Newcomers: Robert Hawkins

Coach’s comment: “Our numbers have been down but I think we will fill all weight classes but two this year. We are up from six wrestlers last year to 18 this season. Right now We have five kids with experience. I’ve got kids who have a lot of heart and are gung ho and are picking it up. Hopefully next year, if these wrestlers stay on, we’ll have a base to work from.

Girls: Taylor Kemp, Casey Chaplin, Doree Bell, Moriah Borsetti, Kari Cowperthwaite, Samantha Cunningham, Sarah Cutting, Krista Dittmeyer, Rachel Ferland, Amanda Fielder, Sarah Hale, Kate Hansen, Meghan Maguire, Amanda Nadeau, Kayla Palmer, Brittany Paul, Molly Shaw, , Sylvia Talbott, Nadine Thomas, Jessica Titzer, Tabitha Titzer. Coach’s comment: “Both boys and girls have the opportunity to do very well this year. We only have about 28 on the team, so it’s a smaller crowd, but I’m especially impressed with a group of freshmen girls coming in. Leading the way for the girls is Sarah Hale (school record holder in several sprinting events) and for the boys is Miles Bartlett (the mile) and Kevin Floster (800), both returning state champions and school record holders. And they are versatile in several events. We have some work to do in the throws, but we’re packed with jumpers, sprinters and distance runners.”
