Senator Bill Diamond (D-Cumberland County) and Bonny Eagle High School Government teacher David Ezhaya have announced a new program at the high school called the “Distinguished Speakers Series.”
Starting Monday, Oct. 17 and running through Oct. 31, top state government officials will be coming to the high school to answer students’ questions and give detailed information about their jobs. The schedule of speakers reads like a who’s who of Maine government with Commissioner of Education Susan Gendron, who kicked the series off on Monday, followed by Attorney General Steven Rowe on Tuesday, Secretary of State Matt Dunlap on Thursday, and the Commissioner of Corrections Marty Magnusson on Friday. All speakers are scheduled to speak from 8 to 9 a.m.
The second week of the “Distinguished Speakers Series” will include Supreme Court Justice Robert Clifford, State Treasurer Dave Lamoine, Republican candidate for Governor Sen. Peter Mills, and SAD 6 state legislators.
Governor Baldacci will conclude the two-week program when he meets with students and takes their questions on Monday, Oct. 31. “The Governor will be talking to the students about their concerns which should be very interesting for these young people” said Sen. Diamond, who was a public school teacher and administrator for over 20 years. Reportedly, this is the first time any sitting Maine Governor has visited Bonny Eagle High School.
