Westbrook’s champion Little Leaguers will be honored for their historic trip to the Little League World Series with a parade down Main Street on Saturday morning.
Westbrook Chamber of Commerce President Darryl Wright said the parade would begin at the Public Safety Building at 10 a.m. The parade route will go down Main Street to Riverbank Park, where the team’s accomplishments will be recognized at a ceremony in the park, said Wright.
In addition to Mayor Bruce Chuluda and other city officials, Wright said Gov. John Baldacci and Rep. Tom Allen have both confirmed they will be in attendance. Wright said he is still waiting to hear from Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, as well as the state Legislative delegation from Westbrook.
Wright said he would be presenting the Westbrook Little League with a check to help offset the cost of the team’s trip to the World Series in Williamsport, Pa. He said the Chamber of Commerce has donated $500 and other individuals and businesses have been donating money as well. Wright said he would like to collect at least $2,000 to present to the Little League. For more information, or to donate money, call Ray Richardson at 409-6172.
