Kristen Desrosiers, 14, of Gorham took first place overall at a recent international swim meet in Canada.

Swimming for the Westbrook Seals, Desrosiers took first place in the 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle and 400-meter freestyle. She also swam the anchor leg for the 400-meter freestyle relay team that took first place. Desrosiers scored enough points to take first place in the 13-14 year old girls class, giving her the number 1 ranking in that age group for the state of Maine.

Kristen has been swimming for only three years and trains three to four hours a day, six days a week.

When not swimming Kristen is studying or practicing piano. She has recently graduated 8th grade with a grade point average of 98.7.She states that she has not much of a social life.” Swimming occupies most of my free time”.

Kristen is not the only swimmer in the family. Her twin sister, Katelyn, started swimming two years ago. During the meet in Canada, Katelyn took third place in the 200-meter breaststroke, fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke, seventh in the 100-meter backstroke and eighth in the 400-meter individual medley. She scored enough points to rank her 14th in the state of Maine.
