‘Helping hands’ at White Rock
White Rock Baptist Church, Route 237, will host the group “God’s Helping Hands” in four upcoming services.
The Awe family, the second generation of the group, will be ministering at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, in addition to 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. They will present a two-hour program at each service, a family conference with music, puppets and chalk drawings.

Burnham 33rd degree Mason
James W. Burnham of 332 Gray Road was one of 238 elevated to the 33rd degree in Scottish Rite Freemasonry in ceremonies on Aug. 30 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Burnham is in the sales and service of bank equipment field.
A statement said that the 33rd degree is awarded for outstanding achievement within the fraternity or for contributions to others reflecting credit on Freemasonry. The ceremony was expected to be attended by 2,000 33rd degree masons and their wives from 15 northeastern and Mid-western states.
Kayaking fun
Vicky Packard with her two children, Devyn, 12, and Gareth, 9, kayaked on the Little River on Thursday afternoon in some late summer fun before school starts.
Packard’s two children are home-schooled with Devyn entering the seventh-grade and Gareth entering the fourth-grade this fall.
Rhonda Warren of the superintendent’s office said 56 Gorham students were home-schooled last year. Warren said last week the Gorham School Department was still receiving applications from parents to school their children at home this year. She said parents have to apply annually.
About 2,800 students are enrolled this fall in Gorham’s five school buildings.
Ladies Circle sponsors supper
The Ladies Circle of the West Gorham Union Church is sponsoring a baked bean and casserole supper from 5 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the church on Route 25.
The cost is $6; $2.50 for children 12 years old and under.
VFW to meet
Gorham Memorial Post 10879 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the West Gorham Fire Station.
