In 1840, the Rev. Zenas Thompson and a group of parishioners erected a church on Main Street. The building still stands at 917 Main St. and houses My Sister’s Closet consignment shop. There were years of inactivity with only occasional services until 1884 when the Rev. Ouillen H. Shinn was called to Saccarappa and his untiring efforts to rebuild and increase church membership led to the building of a new church. Construction on the present day Universalist Church building at 719 Main St. began in 1887 and was completed in 1888.
