Cartridge World, 241 Route 1, Scarborough, will celebrate its grand opening Saturday morning, July 9 from 10 a.m. to noon, with a benefit for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southern Maine.

Owner Phil Coupe says the event will allow him to introduce customers to Maine’s first Cartridge World franchise, while at the same time to assist the program that partners more than 400 at-risk youngsters in Cumerland and York counties with one-on-one adult mentors.

Attendees will receive a free car wash when they register to win tickets to a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

Big Brother, Big Sister participants will be on-hand at the Route 1 location to wash the cars of those who stop in and register at the event. Cartridge World will donate $5 to the organization for every car the volunteers wash.

A long-time supporter of the program, Coupe says, as a business owner, he feels an obligation to support community programs. “I can’t think of anything more important than making a difference in the life of a child.”

Cartridge World, which opened May 12, refills and recycles inkjet and toner cartridges.

The result, Coupe says, saves customers up to 50 percent over the cost of new ones and keeps millions of cartridges out of landfills.
