Standish resident Dave Cousins warned that target archery was a game of fractions of an inch. And sure enough, in Madrid at the World Indoor Archery Championships, one arrow turned a possible gold medal performance bronze.

In the senior men’s compound division, Cousins lost a one-point decision in the semi-finals to Italy’s Antonio Tosca, 116-115, but rebounded to win the bronze medal with a 118-117 victory over Fabio Zaetta of Italy. Sweden’s Morgan Lundin won the gold medal. Other U.S. competitors in the senior men’s compound division – James Butts (Englewood, Colo.) and Gary Studt (Brookville, Ind.) – placed 21st and 34th, respectively.
