The city has extended the deadline for development proposals for Saccarappa Park until August.
Proposals for development of the park were originally due to the city on July 1, but Director of Economic and Community Development Erik Carson said that deadline has now been extended until Aug. 1.
Carson said one of the developers interested in submitting a proposal asked for an extension, and the city agreed to extend the deadline by a month. “I think it makes sense to do that,” said Carson.
The city sent out requests for proposals to about 15 developers, said Carson. He said he has had three serious inquiries about developing the park, and he expects the city will receive about five proposals by the deadline.
On April 25, the council voted, 7-0, to approve a request for proposals for development of up to 60 percent of the 1.34-acre parcel. The remaining 40 percent of the land would be reserved as public open space along the river. The city’s proposal request also specifies that any development should preserve a view of the river from Main Street.
The proposals will be opened at a public opening on Aug. 1 at 4 p.m. in the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall. Carson said both the mayor’s economic development committee and the City Council’s Economic and Community Development Committee would review the proposals once they’re open. Both committees will then present their recommendations to the City Council at a later date.
