All persons interested in applying for the Gorham Garden Club Merit Scholarship are invited to do so now.
An applicant must have resided in Gorham for the two years prior to application and must be either a high school senior or a currently enrolled student in an advanced education institution planning to major in one of the following disciplines: plant and soil science, environmental studies, botany, ecology, forestry, wildlife management, or related fields.
Those who are interested are asked to submit an essay that tells the garden club members about themselves and their background and explains why they are interested in their chosen field. They will be judged on content, form and clarity of expression. The scholarship will be paid directly to the school in which the selected student is enrolled after it has been established that he or she is in good standing and is enrolled for the next semester.
The scholarship amount will be in an amount to be decided but at least $300. The essay should be typed, not exceed two pages, and include the applicant’s full name, telephone number, mail and e-mail addresses and be sent to: Scholarship chairman, GGC, 20 Carll Lane, Gorham, ME 04038-2309 by June 20, 2005.
