Martin Post 197 commander

Dave Martin was installed as commander of Westbrook Memorial Post 197 of the American Legion in ceremonies last month.

Other officers installed were Carroll “Red” Crimmin, 1st vice-commander, and Dennis Axelson, finance officer.

Yard sale reminder

The Chopin Club is holding a yard sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at 254 East Bridge St.

Miaoulis Universalist speaker

Rev. Nancy Miaoulis will speak at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, at the Westbrook Universalist Church, 719 Main St.

The service marks the final one before the church’s summer break. Regular services will continue in September.

Tarbox recognized

Chaplain Kimberly Tarbox received a President’s Volunteer Service Award recently in Clanton, Ala., at a national conference of the United States Corps of Chaplains.

Tarbox received a gold level award for 500 hours of community service in one year. The award was presented in connection with President George Bush’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Joint ’45, ’46 reunion plans

The Westbrook High School classes of 1945 and 1946 are planning a combined reunion at noon on July 6 at Verrillo’s, 155 Riverside St., Portland. Those attending will order from the menu.
