It is my understanding that a developer is asking for a zone change to allow them to build ninety (90) units between Spring Street and Stroudwater Street.
However, the entrance will be on Spring Street next to the Springbrook Nursing Home. These are to be elderly and assisted living. The price is to be in the $200,000 range. Some will be duplexes and some individual cottages. No entrance on Stroudwater Street except an emergency exit.
There is to be a public hearing in June, but let’s get started. We have enough problems with traffic on our street without adding more. Also the entrance will be on a very dangerous turn in the road. Now is the time to stop it.
I urge all the people on Spring Street and all the side streets to call your alderman and tell him to vote no when this gets to them. People on the side streets will also be affected by this increase in traffic.
Also, let aldermen know it’s time to stop all the developments in Westbrook. This is costing the taxpayers money and not making money for the city. Developers buy the land, build the houses, sell them and get their money and then they are gone. We are left paying for police, fire rescue protection, plus street repairs, sewer problems if any and more snow plowing for Public Works.
The mayor is trying to keep taxes down and still the Zoning Board, Planning Board and City Council keep approving these developments.
I believe it’s time the citizens of Westbrook start to take back our city and stop all this building.
