Garden Club to meet

The Buxton Garden Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, at Snell’s Family Farm.

Gardeners will hear about constructing container gardens. For more information, call Sharon Newell at 929-8283.

The club will have its annual plant sale 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 21, at 893 Narragansett Trail. Annuals and perennials will be provided by the Buxton Garden Club.

Church bean supper

The Buxton Center Baptist Church on Route 22 will have a bean supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. The supper will include two kinds of beans, red hot dogs, chop suey, coleslaw, hot rolls, dessert and beverage. Takeouts will be available. $6, $2.

Legion Post meets Monday

The Hutchinson-Boulter Post 130 of the American Legion meets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, at 401 Bar Mills Road, Hollis.

Bake, book, rummage sale

The Hollis Center Library at the intersection of routes 35 and 202 in Hollis is sponsoring a bake, book and rummage sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, with Sunday, May 22, as a rain date.

Donations of cash, food, books and quality treasures are welcome. The proceeds will benefit the library, which is celebrating 91 years of service.

June alumni banquet

Alumni of Samuel D. Hanson High School will have its annual banquet on Saturday, June 11, at Salmon Falls Restaurant in Hollis.

Relief effort at Jewett/Hanson schools

Through student and staff fundraising, Frank Jewett/Hanson schools in Buxton center contributed $1,000 to the American Red Cross and their efforts to assist countries affected by the December tsunami.

The money was raised by collecting change over a four-week period and wearing hats for a $1 donation on Fridays. Olivia Staples, Samantha Miller and Emily Duggan were the kickoff coordinators who were definitely appreciated for their efforts to organize this response.
