Wm. Douglas Smith, who has more than 23 years of management experience in the health care environment, has been appointed Chief Information Officer at Martin’s Point Health Care in Portland.
Smith, who joined Martin’s Point in 2001 as Chief Operating Officer, will focus in his new role on leading and implementing the organization’s technology advances. Martin’s Point is undergoing a number of new projects that will rely upon Smith’s leadership in Information Systems operations, including the expansion of the US Family Health Plan into new regions and installation of electronic health records.
“Doug’s leadership and commitment to the mission of Martin’s Point Health Care has been outstanding, and I am confident his talents and experience will continue to pay dividends in this vital new role,” said Dr. David Howes, M.D., President and Chief Medical Officer at Martin’s Point.
A Windham resident, Smith is active in the YMCA. He received a Master’s of Health & Hospital Administration in 1979 from Duke University in Durham, N.C., and graduated cum laude with a degree in psychology and a minor in biology in 1976 from Saint Michaels College in Winooski, Vt.
