The city will be holding a yard waste drop-off program at the Public Services maintenance garage through May 20.

The drop-off area at the garage at 371 Saco St. will be open from Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon. The program is open to Westbrook residents only. Proof of residency, such as a car registration, driver’s license, or tax bill will be required.

The program is designed to allow residents to dispose of yard waste and garden debris only. Residents will be allowed to drop off tree branches less than 3 inches in diameter, leaves and grass clippings and other garden debris. Residents are limited to one pickup truck load of branches and limbs. Also, no plastic trash bags will be accepted. Biodegradable bags can be used, but residents will be responsible for emptying all plastic bags and disposing of them.

The Public Services Department said household waste and large items would not be accepted. Because there will be no large item trash pickup program in the city this year, residents are advised that they may dispose of those large items at Plan-It Recycling, 18 Gorham Industrial Parkway, Gorham, or Riverside Recycling Center, 910 Riverside St., Portland.
