The Heritage of Maine program is putting on a forum on abstinence education from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on April 26 at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Westbrook.

The program for parents, teachers and friends of teens will help teach how kids can set positive goals and learn to avoid risky behaviors, including sex, drugs and alcohol.

The forum will offer a chance to hear about the Heritage Keepers Program, a character-based curriculum offered by trained educators committed to mentoring abstinence.

The Heritage of Maine program increases parental awareness of teen problem areas and provides adolescents with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully navigate the adolescent years.

This method has been taught successfully for eight years in eight states. It focuses on middle school and high school age students. Results are outstanding, reversing the rising trend of STDs, early pregnancy, and teen depression. Information will be provided about this program, which is now available in Maine. Of course, teens are also welcome to come and find out what this is all about.

There will be an opportunity for questions and answers. Refreshments will be served.

St. Mary’s Parish Hall is located at 625 Main St. in Westbrook. For more information, please call Heritage of Maine at 878-5438 or e-mail us at heritageme@maine.rr.com.
