Last week, the state announced that the Lakes Region will see more than $7 million in necessary highway repairs over the next two years, including resurfacing, reconstructing and installation of traffic lights.

The Maine Department of Transportation has appropriated in excess of $7.5 million for highway projects in the Lakes Region area. Under the Biannual Transportation Investment Program (B-TIP), a plan is submitted every two years to the legislature outlining the plans and budget for road repairs.

“I am exceptionally pleased that the state of Maine has responded to the needs in this area. Some of our roads are in pretty bad shape and were becoming unsafe for our citizens. This funding will take care of those concerns and will, at the same time, spur the local economy,” said State Sen. Bill Diamond of Windham of the news.

“We get a lot of tourists in the Sebago area and must make sure that our roadways are in good shape and are safe, both for them and for our residents who must travel them year round,” Diamond added.

Diamond said he was a member of the local legislative delegation that worked to raise awareness of local needs. Working along with Diamond were Representatives Cebra (R-Casco), Robinson (R-Standish), Moore (R-Standish), Bryant (D-Windham), and Plummer (R-Windham).

Diamond acknowledged the team effort saying, “Not all delegations work together as well as we do, but it certainly benefits the towns of Windham, Standish and Casco.”
