On March 7, the Winter Pathfinder Club from Bonny Eagle Middle School set off for Eustis and what would prove to be quite an adventure.

For the past few years, the boys have gone to Millinocket and Baxter State Park for their weeklong expedition. This year, they used a cabin in Eustis. Upon arrival, the boys had to dig out a place to park the vehicles. This would be an omen for things to come.

The group arrived on Monday and enjoyed a relatively quiet day setting up camp. Expected temperatures were to be in the normal range which would have been around 40 degrees. Unfortunately, the temperature never rose above 10 degrees the whole week. On Tuesday it started to snow and when it was over, there was 16 inches on the ground. During the height of the storm, they had 60 mph winds and drifting snow reaching four feet. The next day the crew dug out of their tents.

The boys did a lot of snowshoeing during the week and attempted to go ice fishing but the soft snow made the going difficult. Some of the boys set off on some great adventures and after some good problem-solving, they were able to climb to the top of a local mountain.

The expedition leaders were Moe Auger, Jason Knight and Sean Curran.
