VFW to meet

Gorham Memorial Post 10879 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at the West Gorham Fire Station.

McCullough to speak on massacre

David McCullough will speak about the Bryant cabin massacre 250 years ago when the Gorham Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 11, in the Gorham Savings Bank operations center off Gray Road.

William Bryant and four children were killed by Indians at their cabin on Fort Hill Road on April 19, 1746, according to the “History of Gorham” by Hugh McLellan.

College choir at Corthell Hall

The University of Maine Chamber Singers will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, in Corthell Concert Hall on the Gorham campus.

Tickets are $6 for general admission and $3 for students and seniors. For more information or for reservations, call 780-5555.

The performance is a fundraiser for a tour next month. The Chamber Singers will perform in Salzburg, Venice, and in southern France during a 10-day tour in May.

Lindeman on dean’s list

Congratulations to Amy Lindeman, who has been named to the dean’s list at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., for the fall semester.

50 years ago

The Westbrook American reported in its issue of March 31, 1955, that Joanne Ivers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ivers of Green Street, spent several days visiting her grandparents in Portsmouth, N.H.

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Thursday, March 31, that the U.S. debt was $7,776,939,047,670.14.
