Library display

On display, now through May 21, is a wonderful collection of old advertising tins from the collection of Louis Sinclair. He began collecting advertising tins about 20 years ago, initially using them as objects reproduced in paintings. He continued to collect them for the history that they evoke, as well as for the interesting design characteristics found in many of them. Some tins in his collection are quite rare, dating back to the early to mid 1800s (such as one on display). There are also tins from England, Canada, Ireland and America in the library display, coming from a collection of nearly 400 tins. The display is clearly labeled, and accompanied by an article from Sinclair. Do stop by the library for a look at this truly interesting exhibit. Supper

On Friday, April 8, there will be a public ham and bean supper at the Windham Hill Church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will include: three varieties of Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Tossed Salad, Macaroni and Cheese, Italian Bread, Homemade Pie, Coffee, Tea and Punch. The cost is $6 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and under.

Officer of the Year

Portland Police Officer Chuck Libby will be honored as the Police Officer of the Year at the Portland City Council meeting on April 4, at 7 p.m. Chuck has been an officer for 10 years. He is a firearms instructor for the department and at the Academy, as well as a member of the Special Reaction Team.

All Academic Squad

Jenelle Vance, daughter of David and Judy Vance, was recently named to the All Academic Southern Maine Activities Association Cheering Squad. In order to be eligible you must maintain a 90 average during the cheering season. Jenelle has been accepted at many colleges but has decided to attend St. Joseph’s College and major in Exercise Science for a 4-year major.

Birthday

Joanne Vance celebrated her birthday on March 16. She enjoyed a birthday dinner on March 19 at Thatcher’s Restaurant with the following friends and family: husband, Donald Vance; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Roger Dumond; Carl Hinkson and Roberta Hall; Steve and Judy Berry and Beth and Lyndsie Hall.

Book signing

Michelle Libby will be doing her first book signing for “Dog Days of Summer” in Natick, Mass., on April 2. It’s a book signing for literacy as a part of the New England Chapter of Romance Writers of America’s annual conference “Fool for Love.” It is available May 1 from Wings-press.com.

Degree

Harriet Haskell recently received her Associate Degree in a 2-year program of Applied Science with her major being in Beef and Livestock. She has now transferred to the 4-year program to receive her Batchelor’s Degree. Harriet attends SUNY in Cobleskill New York.

Trip

Connie Dibiase and Judy Vance recently took four Windham High School Senior girls to Playa Del Carmen for a week. The girls included: Jenelle Vance, Laura Dibiase, Alison Floyd and Heather Doherty. They all had great fun snorkeling, swimming and beaching it all week.
