Ran and won elections in 2022 and 2024 to state House of Representatives District 52.
Top Three Priorities
Helping people age at home with dignity, ensuring everyone has enough to eat, and making sure people have access to safe, stable housing.
Why are you running?
I've always believed in standing up for people who may not have the position, resources, or confidence to advocate for themselves. I'm running to serve my community and to be the strongest voice I can for the people I represent. In the Legislature, I can turn that advocacy into action by helping pass policies that make people feel respected and supported, and that strengthen our communities.
What is one way Maine is on the right track? What is one way the state is on the wrong track?
Maine is doing a good job pushing back against federal actions that threaten our rights and independence. We're protecting public health, reproductive freedom, and election integrity. But we're on the wrong track with our tax system. There is sufficient wealth in Maine to fund the services people need, but we ask too much from working families and not enough from the wealthiest individuals and large corporations.
As one of several dozen legislators in your chamber, how would you make a measurable difference for your constituents?
When I'm not in Augusta I'm helping constituents access the programs we've put in place to make Maine more affordable. Recently, I helped a constituent enroll in the Medicare Savings Program, saving them $204 a month, and access the Property Tax Fairness Credit, saving them hundreds more. Passing good policies matters, but they only make a difference when people know about them and can access them.
Surveys show the economy is the top concern of voters. What is a specific proposal addressing Maine voters’ economic anxieties that you’d work to make law?
We must find a fair way to require more from out-of-state homeowners who spend much of the year elsewhere and contribute less through Maine's income and sales taxes. At the same time, second-home ownership can put added pressure on housing costs in communities where working people are struggling to afford a home. I would work toward tax policies that ask more from nonresident property owners while making Maine more affordable for year-round residents.
