What is one way Maine is on the right track? What is one way the state is on the wrong track?
Maine is on the right track when communities protect working waterfronts, forests and farmland while supporting local jobs. We are on the wrong track with high taxes, last-minute spending bills and more education dollars that still leave students lagging in reading and math. Commonsense balance — lower costs and better outcomes without endless new spending — is the path forward.
As one of several dozen legislators in your chamber, how would you make a measurable difference for your constituents?
I will push measurable reforms: force real audits of waste (especially in the Department of Health and Human Services, where oversight has failed), redirect savings to property tax relief, and demand transparent education results focused on reading, writing and math proficiency instead of more bureaucracy. Constituents will see lower pressure on their taxes and clearer school accountability, not more of the same.
Surveys show the economy is the top concern of voters. What is a specific proposal addressing Maine voters’ economic anxieties that you’d work to make law?
Rein in government spending and stop last-minute budget increases. Audit waste across agencies, strengthen municipal revenue sharing and expand property tax relief for working families. Pair that with requiring workforce housing in major developments and lower energy costs through diversification. These steps directly ease the squeeze of high taxes and rising living costs without new spending.
