Top Three Priorities

Constituent services. Give me a call and I’ll be the friendly voice on the other end of the line doing my best to help you. – Schools. We need teachers in our classrooms; we’re coming up short on that. We all need our kids to have a world-class education (we all need doctors who can read!) – Emergency services. The issues facing our emergency services are bigger than any one town or region can solve alone.

Why are you running?

I have a 3 year old. I want schools and jobs to be there when she needs them. I’m looking ahead at the next 40 years of her life in Maine and hoping it will be ready for her to thrive here. I have to do whatever I can to support her, and the way to do that is to support my neighbors and work towards communities that we can all thrive in over the course of our lives. I’ve seen the struggle of medical care, childcare, the job market, rising costs.

What is one way Maine is on the right track? What is one way the state is on the wrong track?

– Feeding every school child is a huge way that we’re on the right track. A hungry belly stops a mind from growing, and we need every kid who’s from here to thrive. – Our property taxes price out our seniors and working families. Same with our income taxes. If you make $64,450 a year, each dollar feels different than if you make $999,999 a year. Right now, you’re taxed the same. We have to add in nuance so more of us are able to make it here.

As one of several dozen legislators in your chamber, how would you make a measurable difference for your constituents?

I will vote yes on property tax reform that helps resident homeowners stay in their communities. I will support firefighters and EMS workers. I will take every call and answer every email. I don’t care where an idea comes from, if it’s good, I’ll go with it.

Surveys show the economy is the top concern of voters. What is a specific proposal addressing Maine voters’ economic anxieties that you’d work to make law?

The way our laws structure property taxes means the Marriott and Marge, living in a camp for the last 50 years, are taxed the same. I will support the effort to change that, so there can be nuance in how properties are taxed, and the burden can be shifted off our seniors especially. Looking at your tax bill and wondering if you’ll be able to stay in your home shouldn’t be part of the yearly budgeting process!
