First time running for office

Top Three Priorities

First, driving down the cost of living — lowering expenses for housing, healthcare, childcare, groceries and utilities. Second, securing livable jobs by expanding worker protections, defending retirements and attracting high-paying emerging industries to my towns. Third, protecting our environment by backing local moratoriums to block proposed projects like the Sanford sludge gasification plant and mega data centers that threaten our water supply, air quality and local power grid.

Why are you running?

I’m running because working people in District 33 are getting crushed by an economic system rigged for the folks at the top. After 15 years as a union leader on the shop floor, I’ve seen politicians make big promises while local families drown in high property taxes, utility spikes and price gouging. I’m running to take that fight straight to Augusta: to lower your bills, protect our local jobs, defend our clean water and stand up for our neighbors.

What is one way Maine is on the right track? What is one way the state is on the wrong track?

Maine is on the right track by expanding free community college tuition, trades, and union apprenticeships so our kids can build real, secure careers at home without taking on predatory debt. We’re on the wrong track by letting Wall Street and out-of-state corporate interests buy up our communities, jack up housing costs and push families to the brink while energy companies and wealthy entities bleed working people dry.

As one of several dozen legislators in your chamber, how would you make a measurable difference for your constituents?

I don't go to meetings to talk; I go to fight and get things done. With 15 years of hard-nosed union bargaining behind me, I know how to face down corporate interests and build real coalitions. I’ll make a measurable difference by forcing a vote on targeted property tax relief funded by out-of-state vacation-home owners, capping utility rates, and legally protecting our local aquifers and power grid from exploitative megaprojects.

Surveys show the economy is the top concern of voters. What is a specific proposal addressing Maine voters’ economic anxieties that you’d work to make law?

I’ll work to pass a targeted property tax relief law that slaps a surcharge on out-of-state vacation-home owners to directly fund property tax cuts for full-time Mainers. Skyrocketing property taxes are driving working families and seniors out of homes they’ve owned for decades. Making out-of-state owners pay their fair share will put real money back into local pockets and fight off the squeeze keeping Maine families awake at night.
