Elected to the Lewiston School Committee in 2019. Served on the Lewiston School Committee from 2020 to 2021.
Top Three Priorities
My top three priorities are lowering the cost of living, defending immigrants, and fighting climate change.
Why are you running?
I am running because Lewiston needs fearless, progressive leadership in Augusta to stand up to Donald Trump and fight for working families. As a former Lewiston School Committee member, I know how government works and how to get things done. I will take that background and my experience as an immigration and civil rights lawyer and bring it to my work as a state lawmaker. In Augusta, I'll be a strong advocate for protecting the most vulnerable Mainers.
What is one way Maine is on the right track? What is one way the state is on the wrong track?
We have a venerable history of environmental stewardship in Maine. Our state can and should lead the country in fighting climate change and protecting our environment from pollution. Maine has become too expensive. We need to make it easier for young families to build a life here by lowering the cost of housing and child care, investing in public education, and expanding transportation options within and between our cities.
As one of several dozen legislators in your chamber, how would you make a measurable difference for your constituents?
I will focus especially on my committee work and forging relationships with my committee colleagues. This will allow me to influence legislation pending before a smaller body, where one member's voice carries more weight.
Surveys show the economy is the top concern of voters. What is a specific proposal addressing Maine voters’ economic anxieties that you’d work to make law?
I will work to pass a new statewide property tax on second homes, using the revenue generated to expand the homestead exemption and deliver property tax relief to Maine residents.
