With the radar system installed, CMP Project Manager Jenna Muzzy said the tower lights will remain off 70% to 80% of the time, but they will come on automatically in poor weather, such as heavy rain and snow.

CMP Spokeswoman Catherine Hartnett said the final phase of testing the radar requires a pilot to fly an aircraft for about half a day to ensure the radar can detect it in all parts of the designated space that would trigger the lights to come on.
