Smith, Noone are All-NESCAC football
BRUNSWICK — Two members of the Bowdoin College football team have been named to All-New England Small College Athletic Conference teams.
Senior offensive lineman Joe Smith was named as a First Team All-NESCAC choice, while senior wide receiver Pat Noone was named to the league’s Second Team.
A durable offensive lineman who saw action at both guard and tackle in his collegiate career, Smith has been a starter for the Polar Bears since his rookie season. He anchored a Bowdoin line that accumulated 1,002 yards on the ground this fall (125.2/game) and allowed just 12 sacks, the fourth-fewest in the NESCAC.
Noone graduates with virtually every Bowdoin receiving record to his credit.
After totaling a team-best 35 catches and 317 receiving yards this year, he finishes his career as the program’s all-time leader in receptions (172) and yards (1,918). He also caught a pass in a schoolrecord 27 consecutive games and established a school mark with an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown against Wesleyan.
Despite ranking second in the NESCAC in total defense (266.8 yards/game) and third in scoring defense (16.0/game), Bowdoin did not receive any defensive nods to this year’s All- NESCAC teams, as determined by the conference coaches.
Bowdoin finished the season 4-4, standing in a tie for fourth place, and shared the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin trophy for the second time in three years.
