DANIEL THORNTON

PORTLAND — People’s United Bank recently announced that Daniel Thornton is president of its Southern Maine market.

Thornton, who joined the bank in 2011 as senior vice president and senior lender in Commercial Banking, is responsible for all aspects of the bank’s function in the Southern Maine market, which stretches from Kittery to Brunswick.

Prior to joining People’s United, Thornton was senior vice president, senior lender at TD Bank in Portland. He brings nearly three decades of experience in commercial lending to Maine businesses and institutions.

Thornton is the president of the board of Ronald McDonald House of Portland and is a director at The Institute for Family Owned Business.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in resource economics from the University of Maine and his M.S. in business from Husson University.

Samuel Ladd, former Southern Maine president, is now vice chairman of Maine. He will continue to represent the bank and do business development and be involved in the community
