A prototype of the Mercedes electricpowered SLS AMG E-Cell concept car was unveiled at the latest Paris Motor Show, in France. Marketed as the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, this exotic, high-performance car will be distributed in a limited series at an approximate price of $550,000. Available in a blue magnetic body called “Electricbeam magno AMG”, this powerful German car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Engineers made this possible by using four electric motors with a combined power of 751 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 60 kWh, weighs 1,208 pounds and guarantees a driving range of 155 miles. It can be recharged in only three hours, thanks to a 400-volt wall box. Compared to a conventional SLS AMG, the center of gravity of the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive has been lowered due to the configuration of the batteries, which replace the gas engine under the hood. The front axle is equipped with a multi-link suspension. For greater braking power, the brakes are made of ceramic with carbon fiberreinforced discs.
B CLASS ELECTRIC DRIVE
After the Smart Brabus Electric Drive and the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, Mercedes-Benz unveiled another model at the Paris Motor Show, the B Class Electric Drive. Limited to the concept stage for the time being, this B Class is powered by a 136-horsepower electric motor with 228 pound-feet of torque. The battery gives a driving range of 125 miles. According to the manufacturer, the B Class Electric Drive could be launched in 2014.
