Rylyn McInnis had a goal and an assist, and fifth-seeded Gorham rolled to a 4-0 win over 12th-seeded Deering in a Class A South girls soccer prelim Friday in Gorham.
McInnis set up Taylor Chadburn in the first half, and scored the final goal in the second half. Adrianna Russo converted a penalty kick and Courtney Cyr also scored for Gorham (11-4), which advances to play fourth-seeded Kennebunk at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Sawyer VonderHaar earned the shutout with five saves. Keely Beyland of Deering (5-9-1) stopped eight shots.
WESTBROOK 2, THORNTON ACADEMY 1: Ida Huntley scored in the first half, Ava Bolden got the eventual winner with 40 seconds remaining, and the 10th-seeded Blue Blazes (7-7-1) eliminated the seventh-seeded Golden Trojans (8-7) in a Class A South prelim at Saco.
Huntley connected on a 35-yard shot with 16 minutes left in the first half. Westbrook protected that lead and finally added to it in the final minute with Bolden scored with an assist from Hattie Clark.
Greta Krantz made 10 saves for the Blue Blazes but lost her shutout with three seconds remaining.
Westbrook moves on to face No. 2 Falmouth in the quarterfinals.
BOYS SOCCER
KENNEBUNK 1, BIDDEFORD 0: Devin Roy scored with assist from Jack Tomasulo with 12 seconds left in regulation as the sixth-seeded Rams (8-4-3) beat the 11th-seeded Tigers (6-7-2) in a Class A South prelim in Kennebunk.
Griffin Whitney made six saves for Kennebunk, which advance to play No. 3 Gorham in the quarterfinals.
Biddeford’s Tyler Pelletier stopped three shots.
FIELD HOCKEY
SOUTH PORTLAND/WESTBROOK 3, WINDHAM 1: Jane Phillips recorded a hat trick as ninth-seeded South Portland/Westbrook (7-7-1) advanced to the Class A South quarterfinals by eliminating the eighth-seeded Eagles (7-8) in Windham.
Phillips opened the scoring in the first quarter, got a tiebreaking goal in the third and added another goal in the fourth.
Sarah Smyth scored for Windham off a penalty corner in the third quarter.
South Portland/Westbrook next faces top-ranked Cheverus on Wednesday.
VOLLEYBALL
GREELY 3, HAMPDEN ACADEMY 0: Anabelle Talley notched five kills, four aces and five digs, Maddie Croteau added eight kills, seven assists and two aces, and the third-seeded Rangers (11-4) swept the sixth-seeded Broncos (7-8) in a Class B quarterfinal, winning 25-12, 25-15 and 25-9, in Cumberland.
