Freshman Ella Mello scored her second goal of the game with five minutes remaining to give York a 2-1 win over Freeport in a Western Maine Conference girls soccer match Tuesday at York.
Emily Hultman set up the first goal with a through ball late in the first half.
Freeport’s Silvi Strong tied it with a shot from 30 yards, but Mello converted a pass from Kylie Buckley for the winning goal.
York improved to 3-8. Freeport is 7-5.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 1, MORSE 0: Rachel Richardson scored 10 minutes into the game, and the Panthers (11-0-1) remained undefeated by shutting out the Shipbuilders (7-3-2) in Waldoboro.
POLAND 7, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: Payton Rose and Julia Paradis each scored twice as the Knights (11-2) rolled past the Seagulls (2-10) in Old Orchard Beach.
Kaylee Hudson, Gracelyn Camire and Alaina Hamlin chipped in with a goal apiece. Payton Blake earned the shutout with three saves.
TRAIP ACADEMY 3, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Jacqueline Diallo scored all three goals as the Rangers (9-3) beat the Raiders (3-7-1) in Kittery.
GREELY 4, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Lili Pierce paced the Rangers (7-4) with two goals in a win over the Patriots (2-8-2) at Gray.
Sami Santerre added a goal and an assist and Tess Waterhouse also scored. Greely keeper Lili Wawrezecki Stein faced only one shot.
Gray-New Gloucester’s Mallory Hardiman made 10 saves.
BOYS SOCCER
BRUNSWICK 4, MT. BLUE 1: The Dragons (9-2-1) scored three goals in the second half to beat the Cougars (7-5) in Farmington.
Cris Bakueti, Oliver Gordhoff, Sebastian Martini and Brendan Shaw scored for Brunswick. Declan Theberge made four saves.
Nate Zeliger scored and Kooper Keller stopped 11 shots for Mt. Blue.
MARSHWOOD 0, PORTLAND 0: Carter Shaw made six saves for Marshwood (8-2-1), and Finn Noonan and Griffin Lavertu shared goaltending duties for Portland (2-6-3) as the teams played to a scoreless draw at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
Noonan and Lavertu each stopped two shots.
GORHAM 1, KENNEBUNK 1: Levi Christopher scored the tying goal with four minutes left in regulation as Kennebunk (6-4-1) earned a draw against visiting Gorham (10-1-1).
Christopher’s goal, assisted by Caden Notine, came after Rowan Reed put Gorham ahead early in the second half.
Moritz Deppner set up Gorham’s goal.
Kennebunk keeper Griffin Whitney made 10 saves. Corbin Wilson of Gorham stopped five shots.
GREELY 6, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Connor Skillin netted a pair of goals, and the Rangers (10-1) shut out the Patriots (4-7) in Cumberland.
Gavin Byrne contributed a goal and an assist. Max Allen, Hunter Caiazzo and Ethan King were the other goal scorers.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 2, LAKE REGION 1: The Panthers (2-5-4) got goals from Carson Richard and Daniel Smith to beat the Lakers (3-4-5) in Naples.
Wildr Leighton-Hart scored for Lake Region.
VOLLEYBALL
MARSHWOOD 3, WELLS 1: Nellie Young had 21 kills, Brynn Folger finished with 27 assists and Kylie Folger made 26 digs to help the Hawks (8-5) beat the Warriors (4-8) in South Berwick, 25-23, 25-20, 22-15, 25-8.
Renee St. Pierre added eight blocks.
FALMOUTH 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 2: The Navigators (6-6) withstood a big comeback by the Red Riots (8-5), escaping with a 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 15-7 victory in Falmouth.
Olive Clark led Falmouth 21 kills and seven aces, Julia Young added 11 kills and three aces, and Abby Shaw had 25 assists.
The Red Riots got 19 kills from Ellen Bloch, six kills from Payton Sileo, 10 digs from Kaley Moller and 25 assists from Nicole LeBoeuf.
GORHAM 3, YORK 2: Liana Edwards finished with 24 assists, Lauren Dunbar had nine kills, and the Rams (10-2) beat the previously undefeated Wildcats (10-1) in Gorham.
York is ranked No. 2 in this week’s Varsity Maine Top 10. Gorham is ranked sixth.
GREELY 3, MESSALONSKEE 0: Anabelle Talley recorded 14 kills, 16 digs and a block as the Rangers (9-4) won all three sets against the Eagles (8-6) by a score of 25-20, in Cumberland.
Greely also got eight kills, five aces, 19 assists, two digs and a block from Maddie Croteau; six kills, two aces, two blocks and two digs from Ryley Bonner-Combes; and three aces and 12 assists from Kyley Greco.
